1.1.4 Using communication strategies in English as a Lingua Franca interactions

Welcome to the “Using communication strategies in English as a Lingua Franca interactions” Section of the ENRICH CPD Course. This Section refers to the importance of introducing the practice of communication strategies in an ELF-aware perspective. Emphasis is placed on the pedagogical implications which may be derived for the development of oral skills, especially in view of the current use of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) in cross-cultural interactions. This Section also provides an overview of the new scales described in the CEFR for defining mediation strategies, each of which focuses on specific aspects of intercultural communication with reference to the current multilingual settings. A final focus will be given to the accommodative processes reported in the use of ELF both in formal and informal exchanges and encounters. This Section includes 4 Activities in total.
